DIY Truck Bed Liner Makes Protecting Your Investment Easy, Affordable.

Pick-up trucks continue to be one of the most versatile and popular vehicles on American roadways. One reason is that automakers have kept them up with consumers’ tastes by arming them with more performance features and luxurious appointments. This has increased the average price and motivated owners to keep them longer. Thus, today’s upscale pick-up truck drivers see them as a valuable investment that warrants preventative maintenance and protective treatments, such as a bed liner.

A permanent, polyurethane bed liner is superior to vinyl and epoxy roll-on or plastic bolt-in products, which can crack under pressure.

“While many pick-up truck buyers immediately invest in protection for their truck beds, a lot of people don’t realize the value a tough, durable bed liner makes over the life of the vehicle,” says Lynn Repak, brand manager for HERCULINER®, America’s #1 do-it-yourself roll-on bed liner.

Unlike plastic drop-in liners, permanently sprayed or rolled-on bed liners bond directly to the metal of the truck, sealing the surface and eliminating rust and corrosion. Because the liner actually forms to the contours of the truck, it also provides a layer of sound proofing versus drop-ins, which often are not an exact fit and then rattle, squeak, and increase wind vibration noise. Most importantly, the polyurethane formula found in HERCULINER and most dealer-installed products provides a flexible, impact-absorbent and skid-resistant surface. Less expensive roll-on product often are made of vinyl polymers or epoxy bases, which tend to be more brittle and crack under continuous pressure.

“The good news is that those who decide to add a bed liner later on can get the quality and durability of polyurethane in a do-it-yourself installation kit at their local auto parts store for less than a $100,” Repak said. HERCULINER is sold in a ready-to-use kit with two rollers, a paintbrush, a scuff pad and a gallon of bed liner coating. Plus, it contains rubber granules for tough, skid-resistant protection, so it need only be stirred and applied without worry of mixing in other additives or hardeners. It’s a simple application process, and cures within a few hours. Alternatively, HERCULINER is also available through spray-on dealers throughout the country, for those interested in having their liner professionally installed.

According to Repak, polyurethane coatings also have many other alternative uses beyond bed liner protection. “Whether you want to protect the undercoating and wheel wells of the vehicle, add more skid resistance to truck steps for safer footing, or protect the running boards or grill guards from rocks and gravel, you’ll find HERCULINER to be an effective tool in adding protection and skid resistance in a variety of areas,” she explained. “In fact, it can be used to coat wood, metal, concrete, plastic, or fiberglass, so the possibility of usages are endless.”
